Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. All transactions within the APTE online store are controlled by Microsoft IIS 4.0 certificate server and are subject to a high level of encryption. Additionally, all transactions in the Online Store area are signed digitally with a Verisign Server ID to ensure security.
Children's Guidelines
To protect children we do not ask students for their full name, address or phone number without parental permission. We request e-mail addresses of users for use of the Puzzle Center and also for notification of winning in our online contests. Winners of the Puzzle Center contest under the age of 13 have 15 days to return via ground mail a signed parental permission form in order to claim their prize.
Email address, school location (zip or city/state) and first name is used by us to contact student users if their puzzle is picked for addition to the Puzzle Library.
Student winners and student puzzle authors will be posted on the Puzzle Center Web site by first name and state (ex. Jane, Illinois) to ensure the privacy and protection of children. We do not share student information with any other company or person.
Choice/Opt-Out
Our site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us at the point where we request information about the visitor. Users who do not wish to receive mailings from us after registering or would like their information removed from our database can send an email to communications@apte.com.

Curious Minds Click Contest rules
The rules of the APTE Curious Minds Click Contest are as follows. APTE, Inc. shall administer, supervise and judge the Contest. Any U.S. resident 18 or over who is a classroom teacher can enter, except employees of APTE, Inc. and their families ("Entrant"). How to enter: Entries will be taken via the online form only. One entry per Entrant. No entries will be accepted by any other means. Each entry must include a digital photo lesson plan (the "Material"). APTE, Inc. assumes no liability for lost entries. If two or more entrants have submitted the winning lesson plan, a final winner will be selected by random drawing. We reserve the right to cancel, terminate, or modify the Contes in event of a computer virus, bugs, tampering, or technical failure of any sort. The winner will be notified by mail, e-mail, or phone. All entries must include Entrant's address, e-mail address, or phone number. Entries not chosen for the prize may not be acknowledged. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited.
Any Material submitted to APTE, Inc., will become the sole and exclusive property of APTE, Inc. and all decisions with respect to any use, or non-use, of the Materials will be made solely by APTE, Inc. APTE, Inc. shall not be required to use any of the Materials. Each Entrant hereby assigns to APTE, Inc. all right, title, and interest in and to any copyrights and other proprietary rights that may exist in and to Materials.
Each Entrant hereby releases APTE, Inc., its affiliates, officers, direcotrs, employees, agents and assigns, from any and all liability relating to APTE's use, reproduction, preparation of derivative works, distribution of copies or display of the Material, and any other creative or proprietary material produced in connection with the Contest.
Return Policy
For Products Purchased Directly from APTE Inc.
APTE will replace any defective program software. APTE will allow returns of any unopened software if returned to APTE within three months of purchase, less a 15% restocking fee. Opened software can be returned for credit only within three months of purchase, less a 15% restocking fee.
Hardware (cameras, microscopes, accessories) sold, but not manufactured, by APTE, can be returned for credit, only if unopened, within one month of purchase. Defective hardware must be returned to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. APTE will assist customer with manufacturer contact information.
Restocking fee: 15% of purchase price.
Warranty Information
APTE, Inc. warrants the Software disk to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of delivery to you as evidenced by a copy of your receipt. This warranty is limited to the original purchaser and is not transferable. During the 90-day warranty period, APTE will replace any disk not meeting with the foregoing warranty and which is returned to APTE with a copy of your receipt.
THE FOREGOING WARRANTY DOES NOT EXTEND TO ANY DISK WHICH HAS BEEN DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF ACCIDENT, MISUSE, ABUSE, OR AS A RESULT OF SERVICE OR MODIFICATION BY ANYONE OTHER THAN APTE, INC. EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH ABOVE, NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, ARE MADE WITH RESPECT TO THIS SOFTWARE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND APTE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES NOT STATED HEREIN. YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE. SHOULD THE SOFTWARE PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU-AND NOT APTE- ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. THIS WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, AND YOU MAY ALSO HAVE OTHER RIGHTS WHICH VARY FROM STATE TO STATE.
APTE does not warrant that the functions contained in the Software will meet your requirements or that the operation of the Software is compatible with all hardware and software and will be uninterrupted and error-free. You assume responsibility for the selection of the hardware and software to achieve your intended results; and for the installation, use and results obtained from this Software.
YOUR SOLE REMEDIES AND THE ENTIRE LIABILITY OF APTE ARE SET FORTH ABOVE. IN NO EVENT WILL APTE BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY OTHER PERSON FOR ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, EXPENSES, LOST PROFITS, LOST SAVINGS, OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THIS SOFTWARE.
SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES FOR CONSUMER PRODUCTS, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
